Homemade Organic Enchilada Sauce

Enchilada sauce has been one thing that is SO hard to find organic! I don't think I've ever seen it, which prompted me to make it myself... organic, of course

And it was REALLY easy to make, how great is that?!


Ingredients:


1-2 TBSP Organic Olive Oil

1-2 TBSP Organic Butter or Butter Substitute

1 Can of Organic Tomato Sauce

2-3 TBSP Organic Flour

1 Cup of Organic Chicken, Beef, or Vegetable broth

1 TSP Organic Garlic Powder

1 TSP Organic Chili Powder

1 TSP Organic Cumin

1/4- 1/2 TSP Salt

Begin by turning your stove on medium high heat and putting your TBSP of Organic Olive oil, and Organic butter( or butter substitute if making it vegan) into your pot and and melt together.


Measure out your 1 cup of broth and slowly whisk in your 2 TBSP of flour. Work out any lumps of flour until smooth and pour into bubbling tomato mixture.


Lower your temperature to simmer, and then add in your seasonings.



Mix everything together, and simmer for 20 minutes.

Remove from the heat and let cool until you can put in the refrigerator. (About 20 minutes) Place in an air tight container and store in the refrigerator for a few hours or up to a day to let the flavors marinate together. You could also add your shredded chicken, or beef, if you would like, to incorporate the flavors into your meat prior to assembling your enchiladas. (MAKE SURE to reserve 1 cup of mixture PRIOR to adding meat. You will need it to top your enchiladas during assembly at the very end before they go in the oven.)


A benefit to making this enchilada sauce #vegan, is that there are no animal products so you don't have the 3-5 day window with which you need to use this. If you make this sauce and store overnight, then make the dish on day 2 and have leftovers on day 3 you're still good to go. Whereas if you are using beef or chicken broth, you will want to make sure to make this dish, and consume it within about 3-4 days.


I love that I know exactly what is in this sauce, no preservatives, no chemicals, and completely #organic and #nongmo ingredients.
